My life my life my life my life
There isn't no sunshine when you're gone

I've been recording covers recently
Believe by Cher was a highlight

I also recorded an old gospel, "Power in the Blood of the Lamb" with Asher and Teen last night
That was fun

I've been flopping around a lot

I need a new job because my current one went to 3 days a week

I'm gonna buy a futon thing on my 3 days off coming up

ALSO, THERE IS AN EXTREME UNDERCURRENT OF NOSTALGIA AND A GENERAL RETREAT FROM HEAVY METAL IN THE MUSIC I PREFERRED IN 1994, OOPS, 2004. I DON'T KNOW WHY. MAYBE I'M GROWING UP.

Thank you celebration of the onslaught of the wintrr, mr. pagans! Thank you kinder hinter klaus the elder for my shiny iBook! Thank you for lots of beer and ale! Thank you!

I almost fell asleep at the family poker game tonight. I went all in and cashed out pretty early.

Also, I made my sister a painting/collage for XMAS, I think it was fun for her.
Anyway gotta go say bye to the guests!

Hey, I'm at home!!!
I'm attt Hooommmmeee!!!

I think I'm going to try to get together a multi-friend-generation get together tonight starring my sister, my Brentwood friends Amanda, Diego and David (maybe Sarah too?), RISD Dudes Rhett and Jessica and Mirror Mirror bass player Ryan. That would be a lot of people that I love!

Other than that, I'm coughing a lot like an old person and it's keeping me from sleeping. I feel like a zombie and I can't wait to take an extra-hot shower because my slender fingers are frrrreeezzzinnng!

P.S. I guess I'm gonna try to buy a cord for my digi camera because I lost mine and then the NV pictures are gonna go up...Photobucket is the place to upload pictures, right?

but I lost my cord so that may be delayed a bit...

other than that I had a uniformly great time in Providence, thanks to all who made it fun!
Now I'm back at my house and XMAS came 6 dayz early with a new iBook from the CompUSA today...I needed a new freak but it doesn't have all the shit I'm used to on it, and I got no way to transfer Reason, suck.
Anyway, LA's as warm and vapid as usual, I hope I get some work done here.

I saw that Chinese thing "HERO" tonight, it was really pretty good, especially the sort of thing to see with the parentals...we're gonna go see "House of Flying Daggers" together real soon...
Anyway, I hope everyone's having a good time slumming it at the fams'
See you soon

Hello?

Let me rephrase: I want to invite Asher to livejournal, does anyone know how do do that?

I can't figure out how to do it for the life of me...

Plus:how is everyone?

I'm coming to Prov either tomorrow or Saturday...

And I'm moving into Chris Keating's apartment in Brooklyn Heights.

I went to Henry Lau's and Melissa Burns' party at TribecaGrand last night, and although I was drunk, dancing and having a good time, I was a little dismayed at the EXTREME similarities between Henry's set last night and his one at Orchard Bar two nights before. That, and he didn't give me a drink ticket, I guess the 2 times I said hi to him were a little obvious. Whatever. He played "Flashdance (What a Feeling)" TWICE within 2.5 hrs. Once is enough, H.
People were freaking out about my outfit last night, it's good to know that you can get away with a lot of shit here and still be appreciated. I was all renaissance fair/mallgothed out for the first time since the GothRave at Barkev's Kave.
I met Guillaum last night after some awkward pre-meeting interactions. Maybe I was just paranoid (from the tiniest coke?) but also seemed as if people were talking about me at odd times during the night, you know, like pointing and and whispering and two people making eye contackt with me. I think it's different here in NY, like, they know you're here semi-permanently and not just passing through like in NOLA. It's weird how much different this place is from NOLA and in so many ways that suit me better. I can't believe how expensive it is, though, I'm going to really need to start packing in the drinks before I go out, because I spent 16 dollars on 2 mixed drinks last night, obnoxious.
Solomon, Courtney and Kasey are so fun. Sol was so drunk and complimentary last night, it was hilarious. And Courtney got kicked out for trying to steal Tanqueray from the bar, so we all cabbed it up to get some 'za. Some lonely old Asian woman was behind us, and Courtney was trying to mend Patrick's broken heart over the cellphone, and the woman was straight bugging. She was all "Can I put my two cents in? You need to get a girl to take him home and put him to bed because this is a drunk conversation" even though Patrick's gay and that's what the hell we were talking about in the first place. We all got really mad and mean to her, because she was so pointlessly having a problem...it was 4:30 in a packed pizza place in Union Square, did she think a fucking intellectual tea party would be going on? It was so funny and dumb.
Anyway, I didn't roll into Asher's unoccupied bed until 5:30 and now I'm operating on such a tiny amount of sleep. Whatever, it's not like I do that much at work besides update my LJ and check friendster.
OOH! And thefacebook.com, it's so dorky, it's like friendster but organized by school. It's pretty fun.
Later.

mood: and penitent and attritional
music: Mellow Gold
So I had lots of scary dreams about walking down a road and meeting suicidal people who were crazy and them shooting me and stuff like that. One of them had a glassy pupil and gray frizzy hair and looked like a man but was a woman and kept asking me and a woman and a child where the creek was to drown herself in but had one of those black boxy guns and kept threatening to shoot herself by holding it to her head. She shot me in the armpit but then it kind of turned into one of my weird 3rd-person dream montages where it looked like I was watching an MTV version of it all happening on a grainy, small B&W TV. I also had a dream with Maureen in it but I think she was just in a diner here, no big thing.

I thought I was going to go out last night but instead I split a 12pak with Ben Carlson and we ended up watching the Mellow Gold documentary on beck.com, listening to Ben's new album and then listening to Chocolate and Cheese by Ween one and a half times. Good times! We talked hyper-critically of a lot of things, and of Asher, of course, and generally had an alright time. I ended up asleep on his couch. I hope Melodie came back soon, becuz when I left for work I just left the damn door unlocked.

There's gotta be something fun to do tonight.

I danced and danced last night and moshed and moshed.
I saw a band that I liked last night at Lit: Aqui, you should check out their mp3s on the acefu.com website.
They were totally Plasmatics, grind-core drums, arty Roxy Music riffs, whirlwind of power.
The girl lead singer was incanting something, with her eyes all rolled back and fierce.

I also drank 2 Sparks on the street. That made Asher very paranoid even though he suggested it.
Hmmm, I didn't see any real celebrities last night. That kinda sucks.
But I did grind on up on the girl from W.I.T. But she's not famous, she's just routinely bashed in local press-rags. And she has her DFA-records dude back home, so whatevs. But she's totally my lame type.
But the music was really good as usual at Orchard Bar, slutty disco, they even played the new Gwen which totally sent me and Asher into a frenzy. It's our new Toxic, okay?
What else happened?

Solomon told me that one of the groupie-bartender girls at Lit supposedly got shat on by Eric Erlindsson of Hole and that she goes out with James Iha now (who I saw 2.5 wks ago, did I tell you?). She was pretty hot.
But I guess that whole "shitting on thing" is just a rumor. That sucks.

Teen and I had a good conversation, but I was all drunk and stupid by that point so I don't remember it. But it's a first. I like her, so I hope it continues to go well.

And tonight, I guess B-Bar? Sanya invited me to some girlband night somewhere in Tribeca, but I did a little research and it doesn't seem really my thing. And Asher left for PVD for the weekend.
What are y'all doing tonight.

YAH
America's Next Top Model is a goddam sham.
This season must have only had busted people on.
I mean, have you SEEN Amanda?
With that dyejob she looks pointless.
And she didn't even get kicked off this time.

After that, I went to some 50's theme party.
Alright, how about a vote: WHO HERE THINKS A 50'S THEMED PARTY SOUNDS LAME?
Well, it was, basically, even though the bar, Sway, was really pretty and Islamic-inspired.
The only songs I wanted to dance to were the Shangri-Las and Little Richard.
Everything else seemed so "Now and Then", Rosie O'Donnel Lite.

Then we took a cab somewhere (which I vowed not to do along with smoking, which also happened).
And that somewhere was NOT HAPPENING and then the next somewhere around the corner was also NOT HAPPENING.
Cursed.
While waiting for the Subway back to Greenpoint, Asher got offended that I said I would see Alexander with Caitlin and Kathleen before I would see it with him.
I didn't mean for it to be offensive, I just knew they would make it sort of a "night out".
For Asher, you know, it would just be another movie.
I mean, I basically started my LJ with bashing Asher's movie habits, and when I get together with Ben, sometimes that's all we'll talk about.
But Asher really would see pretty much anything.
I think he recommended we see "Christmas with the Kranks" recently.
And I haven't seen A movie in the theaters since I left Providence, not to say I didn't want to.
There's been "A Dirty Shame", "Sky Captain", "I <3 Huckabees", "Seed of Chucky", "What the Bleep do we Know", "The Incredibles", "Team America": I would have seen them all, if I had money.
Whatever.

Today it's really kinda cold.
But it's better than the rain from yesterday.

Anyway, I guess I'm watching the O.C. and then going to Orchard Bar tonight. It sounds like yesterday redux. I'll tell you how it is.

YAHH NO MORE JEALOUSY, TINFOILS, CAUSE IT DOES FEEL PHYSICALLY WEARING. IT'S TRUE. I'LL KEEP TELLING MYSELF THAT. NO MORE JEALOUSY.

Hey, does anyone know really good places that are cheap to go out to eat in manhattan/brooklyn? Because that whole thing about becoming a really good cook hasn't really happened yet. I'm looking specifically for good thai/malaysian/vietnamese, middle eastern, mexican, indian, soul food, african and japanese places.

Here's what I found already:
Milon on 1st Ave between 5th and 6th: 1.50 Banana Pakora and 5.00 entrees

That crazy walkup Japanese place on St. Marks Square (9th st.): amazing tapas for 1-3.00 and noodle dishes
for 4-6.00.

The Belgian Fry place near St. Marks on 2nd Ave.: good fries and 37 different kinds of ketchup and mayonnaise

Oasis Falafel right off the Bedford stop: filling falafel sandwich for 3.00

The Pink Teacup in Soho: amazing 5-course soul food lunch special for 6.50

The really good Chinese Bakery south of Canal: awesome mango fluffballs for .50-.75

My favorite pizza place on Bedford REALLY went downhill since last summer which makes me all mad.

Anyway, yeah. I like this job that I'm at. It's fun right now. And I'm making money.

I found the fucking icon-maker thing, first try! Whoo-ee!

So the rumours are true, motherfucker...

I failed at being a Southerner. I'll miss the weather on some days, but not much else.

I'm going to be crashing on Asher's couch for about 10 days while I start my new job in NY, then I'll be in Providence for about 10 days. Isn't that exciting?

I really do prefer NY to anywhere else. Sleety and snowy and warm-hearted NY.

So, what's new with you guys? Maybe we can start having real conversations again on this thing as opposed to pointless self-flagellating on my part.

I'm turning over a new leafy leaf.

Love Brent

Also, I know you guys don't know me that well or something, but do you wanna start calling me by your own little personalized nickname? I think that would be really cool, dude.
